About TropOcc Health Services

Objectives

Our objective is to develop our Occupational Health Service to better meet the needs of the rapid development of industry in Townsville.

This will provide a high quality occupational health service which:

  • Gives the employer evidence-based Occupational Health advice across the full range of services.
  • Supports the employer’s health and safety policy and advises on fulfilling their statutory responsibilities for workplace safety.
  • Promotes the physical, psychological and social well-being of all employees, thereby minimising ill health and enhancing productivity.
  • Is flexible and designed individually to suit the requirements of the employing organisation's occupational health strategy.

Meet the Team Members

Nigel Forster
Human Resource Consultant

Nigel has performed a variety of managerial roles across Health, Construction, Mining, Manufacturing, Public Sector and Service industries. He is currently working towards completion of an MBA program. When employed as Human Resources Manager at a Melbourne food Manufacturer employing over 1000 people, Nigel was heavily involved in the implementation of ISO9002 quality management systems. He was also responsible for site Health and Safety; return to work programs; developing and delivering 1st-line management and operator training programs and Industrial relations at that facility. Nigel has worked as a Management consultant with Ernst and Young in Darwin and Commerce Queensland in Townsville. In these roles delivering management and personal effectiveness training as well as providing advice in Human Resource Management were key focuses.

Dr Katrina Forster

Katrina Forster has had considerable occupational health experience. Her experience began when working in The Western Region Health Centre in the western suburbs of Melbourne, originally a Union owned health centre (now managed by the Victorian Government) which specialized in a multidisciplinary approach to injury management.

She initiated Executive Health Medicals at the Collins Street Medical Centre which is now responsible for the executive medicals for South East Asia for Kraft Foods.

After a period practicing remote medicine on Bathurst Island Katrina became the Nominated Medical Officer for Newlands Mine then managed by MIM. She remained in this position for 2 years before moving to Townsville where she set up Kirwan Family Practice and then TropOcc health.

With an interest in preventative health as well as further training in mental health Katrina brings together a range of skills beneficial in occupational health.

Working with her husband Nigel Forster (a human resources consultant) she has designed an occupational health service that is responsive to the needs of industry.

Dr Martin Doris

Dr Martin Doris was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, age 40 yrs, married to Catherine, 20 year old daughter Christine, 14 year old son Michael, attended Primary school in Coalisland, Grammar school in Dungannon, studied medicine at Queens University Belfast, graduated 1991, spent 5 years as a junior doctor at Tyrone County Hospital in Omagh , Co Tyrone. Spent one year on GP registrar training post in Cookstown and 1 year as GP associate in Coal Island. Immigrated to Australia in 1998 with my family, worked for a year with NAMLS here in Townsville before taking up a position as Medical Superintendent with Right of Private Practice in Julia Creek as part of the Doctors for the Bush scheme.

During the 5 years working in Julia Creek I successfully completed the Fellowship exam of the Royal Australian College Of General Practitioners. I, along with my wife and children became Australian Citizens in 2004. I have worked at Kirwan Family Practice since leaving Julia Creek in 2005. I enjoy travelling, running on the beach with my dogs, going to the cinema, playing soccer, golf and squash. I am hoping to complete a course to enable me to carry out recreational dive medicals in October 06 in Adelaide.

Dr Stacey Waugh

Dr Stacey Waugh did her internship at The Townsville Hospital and has been practicing in the Townsville district for the past 14 years. Her interests include mental health and paediatrics.

Dianne Salvador
Psychologist

Dianne Salvador is a qualified and experienced provider of organisational psychology services that support and empower staff to be effective and valued members of the workplace. Services include employee counselling, health education/promotion and team building. Her combined studies of business (Masters level), psychology (Bachelors level) and workplace training/assessing (Certificate IV level) have given her important foundation knowledge, skills and abilities in organisational psychology that she has consolidated and developed working in diverse government, community and corporate environments.

Christine Moodie
Practice Nurse

Chris was trained in New Zealand and moved to Australia in 2002. Where she worked in Kalgoorlie in Occupational health. She then moved to Townsville in 2004 with experience in community health, occupational health and hospital services
