Medicals and Pre Employment Medicals

The purpose of a medical assessment of a potential employee before entering into a contractual obligation is to ascertain if the individual is fit to carry out the tasks of the job and that they do not have underlying medical conditions that may put them at an increased risk of harm.

Employers have a duty of care to maintain a safe place of work for employees and ensure that the public are protected from the effects of misuse of drugs and alcohol by employees. This is particularly important where employees work in safety critical areas. To this end we can provide drug and alcohol screening programmes. Standards of Fitness are developed to make the criteria for this assessment consistent for all potential employees in a particular group.

To be effective our pre employment assessments are specifically tailored to the individual’s organisations and tasks. TropOcc’s medicals are focused only on those that are directly relevant to the applicant's ability to perform the essential or core requirements of the position.

Specifically, pre employment medicals:

• screen for medical problems that may prelude an applicant from undertaking the duties of a particular position
• determine if there are any medical conditions that may be exacerbated by the duties of a particular position.
• document baselines for comparison in the future, such as lung function, hearing and monitoring for hazardous substances.

TropOcc is experienced in designing pre employment medicals tailored to the duties of your various positions and ensure that the completion of medicals follow privacy, industrial relations and anti-discrimination legislation.

Medicals conducted by TropOcc can be tailored to your needs, whether in our clinic or on site. A basic medical may be all that is required, or substantially more complex requirements can be accommodated by our medical team.

Preventative Health and Surveillance Health

Preventative health and health surveillance including periodic medicals can be accommodated by TropOcc either in our clinic or on site or through our affiliated in determining health surveillance requirements.

Health promotion is the preventive strategy of the company to minimise the incidence of ill health among employees.

TROPOCC can advise management in:

• Statutory health surveillance - the legal requirement to screen workers exposed to specific hazards.
• Continuing health surveillance eg. Hearing tests, respiratory assessment and lead levels.
• Suggesting precautions to reduce the risks.
• Health education- any requirement to educate the workforce in preserving their well being.
• Intervention programs eg. Exercise programs and stress management.
• Travel Health (including immunisation programme) for employees who regularly travel as part of their job.

Psychology Services

TropOcc is experienced in working with employers to minimise workplace psychological injuries, or stress. In addition to services designed to assist employers with minimising psychological injuries in the workplace.

Our clinical psychologist, Dianne Salvador, is an expert in the field, having extensive research and clinical experience in addition to working with government and statutory bodies to develop policy and prevention programs.

Injury Management

Time access to care for acute injuries with most care to be available on the one site.

We aim to streamline the beaurocratic side to injury management with the use of a dedicated injury management Liaison Officer who will be the primary point of contact for employers and the injured worker. The role of the liaison officer will be to coordinate the required care and be responsible for timely communication between all parties. The Liaison officer has completed a Rehabilitation and Return to Work course and this is in a unique position to be able to address the needs of all parties. Our aim with injury management is to return the worker to gainful employment as soon as possible as studies have shown that this procedures are the beat outcome for the injured worker.

We will have the breadth of expertise to ensure that TropOcc will be able to manage most injuries with in our service. The improved communication through working as a team will benefit both the injured worker and the employer.

Skin Checks

As Australians we are endangered by the harsh radiation from the sun. We currently have the highest incidence of skin melanoma in the world. TropOcc currently uses the Solarscan Machine to assess skin checks.

Solarscan is an expert computer system which takes high resolution digital images of the lesion in controlled lighting conditions. The pictures are then magnified, stored and become available for comparison against any changes in the future. available , yearly check ups are recommended and the examination is painless, quick and safe.

Illness Management

TropOcc reviews long-term illness and assesses employees with frequent sickness and absence., and ensures your workers return to full fitness as soon as possible.

TROPOCC can also assist with developing strategies which will help control staff absences that may help to minimise the length of time that staff are absent, and thus reduce the cost of sickness absence in the workforce. Employees who have already been identified as having exceptionally large amounts of sick leave can be assessed to provide prognosis and report on the prospects of rehabilitation, fitness to return to work with or without limitation. The management of workplace injuries using timely health checks, back to being fit for work as soon as possible, team approach and good communication with employees.

TROPOCC can also provide comprehensive measurement and analysis of health and sickness in a company by establishing lifestyle profiles of employees and reviewing of the working environment, procedures for preventing accidents, and the provision of first aid facilities.

Service Fees

A 3 tiered approach is recommended depending on the level of service needed by your organisation.

The following describes our service relationship levels that is offered :

• Standard – this service would benefit an employee wishing to only access our service just the once off or only when needed,which includes full Medical Examination and pathology tests for risk factors and a comprehensive report.
• Deluxe – where an ongoing medical condition requiring constant monitoring and check ups, which includes all of Standard service as well as Stress test and Skin Check.
• Premium - this guarantees full service and unlimited use of our facilities. It includes Standard and Deluxe services as well as calcium survey and fitness assessment

Employees can choose the level of relationship they would like to have with our service. For example a “Premium” relationship may guarantee speedy access to the service for injury and medicals with regular high level meetings, intensely manage workplace injury and health both on a case by case basis and on a statistical level. At the other end of the spectrum “Standard “relationship is when an employee may just wish to access our quality service purely for episodic injury management with our normal appointment system.
